Hemlock Recreation Area
Open seasonally from early May through Labor Day. Sites are $30 per night with a 50% discount for Senior/Access pass holders.
About
Hemlock Recreation Area occupies a secluded position on the west end of Lake Mitchell, away from the residential development that rings most of the lake's shoreline. The campground provides direct boat launch access to the 1,600-acre lake, which supports a healthy fishery. The marshy western shoreline creates prime habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife. This is a rustic Forest Service campground with basic amenities: vault toilets, potable water from a hand pump, and individual sites with fire rings and picnic tables. The west end of the lake is not ideal for swimming due to milfoil and aquatic vegetation, but the trade-off is a more natural setting and better wildlife observation opportunities. The campground is managed by the Cadillac Ranger District and operates seasonally from early May through Labor Day weekend. Sites accommodate tents and smaller RVs, with parking designed for vehicles with trailers.
