The campground is open with sparse vegetation and surrounded by northern hardwood and conifer forests, wetlands, and glacially formed landscape. The location serves as a hub for water activities, with Lake Michigan beaches about one mile away at Glen Haven. Visitors can access boating, kayaking on the Crystal River, and the iconic Dune Climb where sand dunes rise over 200 feet high. The historic area of Glen Haven, featuring a working blacksmith shop, 1920s-era general store, and Sleeping Bear Point Maritime Museum, is within a short drive.
