About
Towers Arm Cabin is one of the Petersburg Ranger District's most remote cabins, situated on Kupreanof Island at the mouth of Towers Creek on the west side of Towers Arm in Duncan Canal. The terrain surrounding the cabin is fairly flat with hills at the rear and a vast tidal flat and water's edge to the front. This location provides exceptional opportunities for waterfowl viewing and hunting, particularly from September through November, with shorebirds abundant in early May. The hunter-style cabin accommodates up to four people with four single wooden bunks, a table, benches, and a wood stove for heating and cooking. An outhouse with a pit toilet is provided. Firewood is generally supplied for wood stove use only but is not guaranteed. The cabin comes equipped with a broom, dust pan, axe, and splitting maul, though these items may occasionally be missing or damaged. Guests must bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stove, cooking gear, food, clothing, fire starter, and garbage bags. Access is by boat or float plane only, located 16 air miles or 38 water miles from Petersburg. A 15-foot tide is required for boat access, while a 16-foot tide is recommended for float plane access; lower tides may require up to a 2-mile hike across the tidal flat. The location offers fishing for coho salmon from August through September and steelhead trout from April through May. Hunting opportunities include bears, deer, various waterfowl, and grouse. The area is home to diverse wildlife including grouse, deer, wolves, and black bears.
