About

Tompkins Campground is located on the north shore of Cowanesque Lake in Pennsylvania's northern tier, less than one mile from the New York state border. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this campground sits in the pristine Endless Mountains region along the Allegheny Plateau in the Appalachian Mountains. The partially forested campground offers 109 traditional campsites, most with electric hookups, and 16 primitive hike-in tent sites. The facility provides full amenities including hot showers, drinking water, a dump station, playgrounds, and a boat ramp with overnight mooring. The 4-mile Moccasin Trail winds through reclaimed farm fields and woodlands, offering excellent wildlife watching opportunities. Cowanesque Lake provides quality fishing for indigenous species, and tournaments are held regularly. The North and South Tailrace areas below the dam offer additional fishing access. Surrounded by lush forested ridges and rolling mountains, the area is popular for hunting, boating, swimming, and picnicking. The scenic setting and variety of activities make Tompkins Campground an excellent base for family recreation and outdoor adventure in Pennsylvania's northern hardwood forests.
