About

Lawrence Recreation Area is a day-use facility located on the south side of Cowanesque Lake in Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, this area is designed for day visitors rather than overnight camping. The primary bookable facility is the Cayuga Shelter, a fully accessible group shelter with electric service that comfortably accommodates groups of up to 100 people in a lakeside setting. The recreation area offers shoreline fishing on Cowanesque Lake and serves as an access point for the Mid State Trail, which links Cowanesque and nearby Hammond Lake into a continuous path extending through Pennsylvania from Maryland to New York. The surrounding Endless Mountains region features rolling terrain and open fields characteristic of the Allegheny Plateau. Visitors should note this is strictly a day-use area with no overnight camping permitted. Those seeking overnight accommodations at Cowanesque Lake should look to other facilities such as Tompkins Campground or South Shore Recreation Area.
