About

Tioga State Forest encompasses 161,890 acres across Bradford and Tioga Counties, named from a Seneca phrase meaning "meeting of two rivers." The forest is home to Pine Creek Gorge, often called Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon, and offers diverse recreation including hiking, fishing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and paddling. The forest provides 84 designated campsites across five categories: roadside sites (25) along dirt and gravel forest roads, roadside hike-in sites (5) for tent camping with nearby parking, trailside sites (26) accessible by bike, boat, or foot, equestrian sites (3) with hitching posts and manure pits, and rustic grouped sites (25). Improved camping areas at Hoffman, Tiadaghton, Asaph, and County Bridge offer pit latrines, but all sites are primitive with no electric hookups, dump stations, running water, or trash service. This is a working forest certified under Forest Stewardship Council and Sustainable Forestry Initiative standards, balancing timber harvesting, natural gas operations, and conservation. Winter access is not guaranteed as roads are unplowed.
