About
Threemile Campground is situated along the North Fork of the Shoshone River in northwestern Wyoming, just 3 miles from Yellowstone National Park's east entrance via the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway. At an elevation of 6,700 feet, the campground is nestled in a lodgepole pine forest with beautiful mountain views and is surrounded by the Washakie and Absaroka Wilderness areas. Due to frequent grizzly bear activity in the area, only hard-sided camp trailers and RVs are permitted; no tents or pop-up campers allowed. The campground features 21 sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grill, and bear-proof food storage locker. Some sites overlook the river, and pull-through sites are available with a maximum spur length of 60 feet. Vault toilets, hand-pumped drinking water, and trash collection are provided. There are no hookups or cell phone service available. The North Fork of the Shoshone River offers excellent fly-fishing for rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout. The nearby Pahaska Trail provides access into the North Absaroka Wilderness Area for hiking. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with visitors frequently spotting grizzly bears, elk, deer, moose, bison, fox, coyotes, and bald eagles. Pahaska Tepee, Buffalo Bill's historic hunting lodge built in 1904, is located just a mile west and offers tours, horseback rides, and amenities.
Directions
From Cody, follow Sheridan Avenue west through town until it becomes the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway (U.S. Highway 14/16/20). Continue west for 49 miles. The campground is on the south side of the highway next to the Shoshone River, 3 miles from Yellowstone's east entrance.
