About

Threemile Campground offers 21 riverside campsites along the North Fork of the Shoshone River in northwestern Wyoming's Shoshone National Forest. Situated at 6,700 feet elevation in a lodgepole pine forest, the campground provides stunning mountain views and serves as an excellent basecamp for exploring Yellowstone National Park, located just 3 miles west via the Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway. The area is known for exceptional wildlife viewing, including grizzly bears, black bears, moose, elk, deer, bison, and bald eagles. Due to high grizzly bear activity, only hard-sided camping units are permitted; tents and pop-up campers are prohibited. Each site is equipped with a bear-resistant food storage locker, picnic table, and fire ring. The campground offers vault toilets, hand-pumped potable water, and garbage collection. Nearby Pahaska Tepee, Buffalo Bill's historic 1904 hunting lodge, offers guided horseback rides, dining, and lodging. The North Fork of the Shoshone River provides excellent fly-fishing for rainbow and Yellowstone cutthroat trout, while the Pahaska Trail provides wilderness access to the North Absaroka Wilderness Area.

Directions

From Cody, travel west on US Highway 14/16/20 (Buffalo Bill Cody Scenic Byway) for approximately 49 miles. The campground is on the south side of the highway, next to the Shoshone River, about 3 miles from Yellowstone's east entrance.
