About

Newton Creek Campground sits at the edge of grizzly country along the Shoshone River, 37 miles west of Cody and just 16 miles from Yellowstone's East Entrance. The campground's 31 sites accommodate RVs and trailers up to 40 feet, though hard-sided camping is mandatory due to frequent bear activity. Each site comes equipped with a bear box, fire ring/grill, and picnic table. Nearby attractions include Mummy Cave, an important archaeological site, and a memorial honoring the 15 firefighters who perished in the 1937 Blackwater Fire. Two trails depart from the area: one leading to a natural bridge and another to the Firefighters Memorial. The Shoshone River provides fishing opportunities. The campground operates first-come, first-served with no advance reservations. Food storage in bear boxes is mandatory. There is no cell service. The 16-day stay limit applies.

Directions

From Cody, travel west on U.S. Highway 14/16/20 for 37 miles to the campground. The campground is approximately 16 miles from Yellowstone National Park's East Entrance.
