About

Third Creek Group Campground is situated in an open, flat area within Weston Canyon at approximately 5,000 feet elevation, just 12 miles northeast of Malad, Idaho. The single group site can accommodate up to 125 people, making it ideal for large gatherings, reunions, or organized events. The campground features a large picnic shelter, tables, grills, three vault toilets, and potable water spigots. Scattered pines and hardwoods frame the site, providing a mix of open space and partial shade with views of rolling hills and distant peaks. The campground serves as a gateway to extensive outdoor recreation opportunities. The adjacent Third Creek Trailhead, complete with hitching racks for horses, accesses the Oxford Peak Trail System, which welcomes hikers, mountain bikers, motorcyclists, and off-road vehicle users. Deep Creek Reservoir, located just 1 mile from the campground, offers excellent trout fishing, boating, and swimming. The area receives snow through winter and provides opportunities for wildlife viewing and exploring the natural beauty of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Access is easy via paved Weston Highway and a well-maintained 1-mile gravel road suitable for RVs and trailers.

Directions

From Malad, travel 3.5 miles north on I-15 to exit 17. Turn east onto Weston Highway and continue for 7 miles to Upper Deep Creek Reservoir. Turn left on Forest Road 231 and go 1 mile to Third Creek Group Site Campground. Weston Highway is paved and Forest Road 231 is good gravel.
