About

Divide Lake Campground offers an intimate Northwoods camping experience in one of Superior National Forest's smallest campgrounds, with only 3 sites providing a truly secluded setting. The campground is located on Forest Road 172 along the Laurentian Divide, a continental divide where waters on the Divide Lake side flow to Lake Superior while those on the Tanner Lake side flow north to Hudson Bay. The campground features a walk-down canoe launch providing access to Divide Lake, which is regularly stocked with rainbow trout. The 2-mile Divide Lake Trail circles the lake with several good fishing spots, benches, and scenic overlooks along the way. Nearby Dumbell Lake offers additional recreation with a boat ramp, picnic area, and barrier-free fishing pier. Each campsite includes a fire ring, picnic table, and level tent pad. The sites are pull-in style and can accommodate moderately sized vehicles, though they are not specifically designed for RVs. Campers should be prepared to pack out all garbage as no trash service is provided. A solar-powered water faucet provides drinking water at the campground. The area also offers access to a backcountry campsite on Divide Lake, reachable via the carry-down boat access. Trout fishing requires a trout stamp in addition to a valid Minnesota fishing license.

Directions

From MN 61 at Illgen City, turn north on MN 1. Drive approximately 23 miles to Isabella. At Isabella, MN 1 takes a sharp left. Instead of following MN 1, turn right onto Forest Road 172. Follow FR 172 for 4.25 miles to Divide Lake. The campground is on the right.
