About
Cumberland Trail State Park Campground provides primitive backcountry camping within the Laurel Snow State Natural Area, one of the most scenic segments of Tennessee's 300-mile Cumberland Trail. The area contains 8 designated campsites split between two campgrounds: Richland Creek Campground with 5 sites accessible via a 1.9-mile hike, and Laurel Snow Campground with 3 sites requiring a 4.4-mile trek from the Laurel Snow Trailhead. The partially shaded, level sites accommodate up to 6 people and 2 tents each. Fires are permitted in established fire rings only, using dead wood or certified heat-treated firewood. There is no potable water; campers must filter water from natural sources or pack it in. The surrounding trail system spans over 10 miles and features dramatic waterfalls, including the 80-foot Laurel Falls and 35-foot Snow Falls, along with the Bryan Overlook and a 150-foot suspension bridge. As of July 2024, camping reservations are managed through Tennessee State Parks. The gate at the trailhead operates from 8 AM to 7 PM Eastern; all campers must arrive before 7 PM or dark. Overnight parking requires a permit at designated trailheads only.
