About

Frozen Head State Park Campground is nestled in the Cumberland Mountains among some of Tennessee's tallest peaks, offering a wilderness experience across 24,000 acres of rugged terrain. The park features three distinct camping experiences to suit different preferences and skill levels. Big Cove Campground contains 20 rustic campsites scattered throughout the area, each equipped with a parking slip, picnic table, grill, lantern hanger, and fire ring. A modern bathhouse provides hot showers, and centrally located water faucets supply drinking water. Two group sites accommodate 15-20 people. The campground is best suited for tent camping and small RVs, as the bridge to Big Cove has a 5-ton weight limit. No electric or water hookups are available. Flat Fork Primitive Group Site Area offers 8 primitive sites along Flat Fork Road, each holding up to 15 people. These linear sites are located between the road and Flat Fork Branch, with one parking space per site. The park also maintains 9 backcountry campsites accessible via over 50 miles of backpacking trails, with 4 designated as group sites. Backcountry camping requires hiking to reach sites, and water must be filtered from natural sources or carried in. The park enforces Leave No Trace principles and requires reservations for all backcountry camping.
