About

Lost Corral Horse Camp is a dedicated equestrian campground nestled in the Cherokee National Forest, providing direct access to nearly 20 miles of horse trails across Starr Mountain and Chestnut Mountain. The campground features 20 roomy campsites, each thoughtfully equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, lantern post, and horse hitching area (high line) to accommodate both riders and their horses. Operating on a first-come, first-served basis, the campground requires visitors to physically arrive on-site to claim and pay for their campsite, with payment available via the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature where cellular service permits. Each site can accommodate up to five people and two vehicles. The facility includes vault toilet facilities, though sources conflict on water availability. Food storage restrictions apply throughout Cherokee National Forest, requiring all food and beverages to be stored in approved bear-proof containers, locked vehicles, or hard-sided campers when not being actively used. The campground is located just off Highway 411 between Benton and Etowah, accessible via Spring Creek Road near Gee Creek Campground and Hiwassee River State Park.

Directions

From Highway 64/411 intersection, go north on 411 for approximately 12 miles. Turn right at the Gee Creek Campground sign. Travel for approximately 1 mile, turn left just past the State Park Office and cross the railroad tracks. The campground is to the left.
