About

Harrison Bay State Park, designated as Tennessee's first state park in 1937, encompasses 1,200 acres with approximately 40 miles of Chickamauga Lake shoreline. Originally developed as a Tennessee Valley Authority recreation area in the 1930s, the park is named after a large bay at the main channel of the Tennessee River that covers the old town of Harrison and the last Cherokee Campground. The parklands hold historical significance as the location of three Cherokee villages ruled by one of the last great Cherokee Chieftains. The campground features 128 RV sites with water and electrical hookups, with a limited number accommodating RVs up to 65 feet in length. Twenty-seven tent-only sites in Area D offer a more primitive experience with gravel pads and shade, though without hookups. A water spigot is centrally located in the tent camping area. Each campsite includes a grill and fire ring. Four separate camping areas each have their own bathhouse and playground. A centralized dump station serves all RV campers, and a camp store offers last-minute camping essentials, drinks, souvenirs, and educational materials. Located just 17 miles from Chattanooga in the tri-state area, Harrison Bay serves as a haven for campers, golfers, boaters, and anglers. The park features one of the most complete marina facilities available on any TVA lake, welcoming all types of boats and water recreation vehicles. Firewood is available for purchase at the park, with heat-treated or locally collected downed wood required to prevent the spread of invasive pests.
