About

Teal Campground is located a mile north of Williams Creek Campground along Forest Road 640, overlooking Williams Creek Reservoir in the San Juan National Forest. The campground features 16 first-come, first-served sites with views of surrounding peaks. While a few large ponderosa pines provide some shade, much of the area is open and grassy. Only a few sites are suitable for larger RVs up to 35 feet. Williams Creek Reservoir is stocked with kokanee salmon and trout, with the campground's sites a short walk from the water. The Colorado Division of Wildlife offers fishing access through the campground to the dam. Due to the campground's popularity, visitors should plan to arrive early on busy summer weekends and holidays. The dispersed camping closure within the upper Williams Creek area extends from the Forest Service RV dump station at the intersection of FDR 640 and FDR 631 to the Williams Creek Trailhead, extending a quarter mile on either side of FDR 640. Camping is only allowed within developed campgrounds including Teal, Williams Creek, Palisades, and Cimarrona, plus two designated dispersed campsites marked with signs.
