Tanglewood Group Camp offers a secluded group camping experience in the pine-covered mountains of Southern California's San Bernardino National Forest. Located northeast of Big Bear Lake at 7,542 feet elevation in Holcomb Valley, the campground sits along the Gold Fever Auto Tour Trail, which features interpretive sites highlighting the area's rich gold mining history. The single large group site can accommodate up to 40 people and 8 vehicles, making it ideal for extended family gatherings or organizational outings. Facilities include six picnic tables, double and single pedestal grills, a group fire ring, and vault toilets. Campers must bring their own drinking water and pack out all trash. The access road is dirt and gravel that can become muddy when wet; high clearance vehicles are recommended. Nearby recreational opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, OHV trails, and rock climbing. Big Bear Lake offers fishing for trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and largemouth bass, as well as boating. A general store and restaurants are available about eight miles southwest in Fawnskin, and the closest showers are at Serrano Campground east of Fawnskin.

Directions

Take I-10 to Highway 330 to Running Springs. Turn onto Highway 18 and continue to Big Bear Lake Dam. Continue on Highway 38 for 8 miles. Turn left on Van Dusen Canyon Road (Forest Route 3N09) and drive for 4 miles. Turn right onto Forest Route 3N16 and travel approximately 2 miles. Take a right on Forest Route 3N79 and continue approximately 0.8 miles to the campground.
