About

Deer Group Camp provides a secluded group camping experience in the San Bernardino National Forest, situated at 7,625 feet elevation in a mature conifer forest south of Big Bear Lake. The campground's location among tall pines offers substantial shade and a peaceful setting away from the busier lake-area campgrounds. The site includes five picnic tables, one double pedestal grill, one group fire ring, and vault toilets. However, this is a primitive facility with no potable water and no trash collection. Campers must bring all drinking water and pack out all garbage. The forest road access requires high-clearance vehicles or 4WD. The campground accommodates up to 40 people with a maximum of 8 vehicles, making it suitable for family reunions, scout troops, or other organized groups. Dogs are permitted but must remain on a leash no longer than six feet. Reservations are required through Recreation.gov, with bookings available up to 12 months in advance for group sites.

Directions

From I-10, take Highway 30 to Running Springs, then Highway 18 to Big Bear Lake Dam. Cross the dam and continue on Big Bear Boulevard. Turn right onto Forest Road 2N10, then follow Forest Roads 2N17, 2N08, and 2N45Y to the campground. High-clearance or 4WD vehicle recommended due to rough dirt road conditions.
