About
Tailwater Recreation Area sits at the base of Cordell Hull Dam where the Cumberland River flows from the 12,000-acre reservoir. This day-use facility is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and provides river access for anglers targeting the productive tailwaters. The single large group shelter with electric hookup can be reserved through Recreation.gov for gatherings and events. The recreation area includes flush toilets, potable water, a playground for children, an interpretive nature trail, and a boat ramp for launching into the Cumberland River. The surrounding landscape features mixed hardwood forest of maple, hickory, oak, beech, and chestnut trees. Wildlife commonly seen includes whitetail deer, wild turkeys, quail, squirrels, and various waterfowl. Note that this is a day-use facility with a reservable group shelter, not a traditional campground with individual overnight campsites. Overnight camping is available at other Cordell Hull Lake recreation areas including Defeated Creek Park and Salt Lick Creek.
