About

Tahquamenon Falls State Park encompasses nearly 50,000 acres in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and offers multiple camping options centered around the spectacular Tahquamenon Falls. The primary Lower Falls Modern Campground features 188 sites divided into two loops. The Hemlock loop provides shaded camping about a mile from the Lower Falls and remains open year-round with a heated, ADA-accessible toilet and shower building. The Portage loop is situated near the Tahquamenon River, about a quarter-mile from the Lower Falls, offering a sunnier, more open environment with some river-view sites and seasonal facilities. All campsites include 30-amp electrical service with select 50-amp sites available. Standard amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, a playground, sanitation station, and pull-through sites. The park also operates the Rivermouth Modern Campground with 72 sites and the Rivermouth Rustic Campground with 36 sites along the river. The park features over 35 miles of trails including a 16-mile section of the North Country Trail connecting the Upper and Lower Falls. Winter activities include groomed cross-country ski trails, marked snowshoe trails, and snowmobiling on designated routes. The Upper Falls, over 200 feet wide, is one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River, while the Lower Falls offers a series of cascades accessible by foot or rowboat rental. Additional amenities include a boat launch, fishing pier, visitor center, and nearby brewery.
