About

Douglas Hill Campground sits along the shores of Lake Koocanusa, a 90-mile reservoir created by Libby Dam on the Kootenai River. This small, free primitive camping area provides a quiet base for exploring the surrounding Kootenai National Forest and accessing the popular Douglas Hill OHV Area, which features approximately 9 miles of woods trails and over 3,600 acres of open riding terrain. The campground offers basic facilities typical of dispersed Forest Service sites, including fire rings and a vault toilet. Lake Koocanusa provides excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, and swimming during summer months. The area attracts both local visitors and travelers from nearby Canada seeking lakeside camping without developed campground fees. Douglas Hill is located in the Rexford Ranger District, within the scenic Koocanusa recreation corridor that runs along the reservoir's eastern shore. The site is managed as a primitive camping area and operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations required.
