About
Swan Lake Kitchen is a charming historic group site originally constructed in 1936 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and historically preserved in 2009-2010. Located within Swan Lake Campground at the north end of the 52-acre lake, the open-air kitchen shelter sits in a mixed pine forest at 3,640 feet elevation in the Colville National Forest. The group site includes two tables under the historic shelter and four large tables outside, a large flat meadow for tent camping, a small swimming beach with dock, and a paved parking area. Access to the kitchen and meadow from parking requires descending a long staircase, making it less accessible for those with mobility limitations. The site has a vault toilet at the parking area, garbage service, and two water hydrants. The Swan Lake Loop Trail passes directly through the group site. Swan Lake offers excellent swimming, non-motorized boating, and fishing opportunities. The sandy beach and swimming dock are popular summer attractions. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with loons commonly spotted on the lake through most of the summer, plus deer, moose, eagles, and osprey. Huckleberry picking is popular from late June through July along the Swan Lake Trail.
Directions
