About
Bonaparte Lake Campground is located on the southern shore of Bonaparte Lake in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, east of Tonasket, Washington. At 3,600 feet elevation, the campground sits in a mixed conifer forest of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir at the base of Bonaparte Mountain. The lake is home to multiple waterfowl species including the rare northern loon, and wildlife sightings of mule deer, elk, moose, and black bear are common. The campground features 33 individual and family sites plus one group site with a shelter and community fire pit. All sites have picnic tables and campfire grills. Facilities include flush toilets, potable water, garbage dumpsters, a boat launch, and a wheelchair-accessible fishing dock. Fishing is excellent for rainbow, brook, and cutthroat trout. An 8 mph no-wake zone keeps the lake calm for kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. The Pipsissewa Trail departs from the southern loop, offering a 2-mile hike to Pipsissewa Point overlooking the lake, with an option to continue another 5 miles to the Bonaparte Mountain Fire Lookout. Nearby campgrounds at Lost Lake, Beaver Lake, and Beth Lake provide additional options.
Directions
From Tonasket, Washington, take State Route 20 East for 24 miles. Turn left onto the Bonaparte Recreation Area turnoff (Okanogan County Road 4953). Continue approximately 5.5 miles where it becomes Forest Service Road 32. The Bonaparte Lake Campground entrance is on the left.
