About
The Sugar Pine Point State Park Picnic Area is a day-use facility situated on the scenic west shore of Lake Tahoe within Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park. The picnic area is part of the Hellman-Ehrman Estate complex, which features a turn-of-the-century summer mansion built in 1903 that now serves as a museum with tours available during summer months. Visitors can enjoy lakefront picnicking, beach access, and pier facilities approximately a quarter-mile walk from the parking lot. The area also includes a Nature Center with exhibits on local wildlife and ecology, and a visitor center open during summer. Day-use activities include hiking, wildlife viewing, and exploring the historic estate grounds. This is a day-use only facility with no overnight camping. Campers seeking to stay overnight should reserve sites at General Creek Campground, located approximately three-quarters of a mile north within the same state park. The campground offers tent and RV sites with showers and a dump station available.
Directions
From Tahoe City, drive south on Highway 89 for approximately 10 miles. The day-use area entrance is on the lake side of the highway, about 3/4 mile south of the General Creek Campground entrance.
