About
Meeks Bay Resort has served as a cherished family vacation destination on Lake Tahoe's west shore for generations. Located approximately 10 miles south of Tahoe City on National Forest lands, the resort is operated by the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada, whose connection to the area spans millennia. At 6,225 feet elevation, the resort offers stunning views across the azure lake to Cave Rock and is surrounded by the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada.
The resort provides diverse lodging options including the historic Kehlet Mansion, the Washoe House, several cabins and lodges, full-hookup RV sites, and tent campsites. Guests enjoy access to a white sand beach perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water play, with kayak and paddleboard rentals available on-site. While motorized watercraft are prohibited in the bay, boating and water skiing are accessible elsewhere on Lake Tahoe. Anglers can pursue kokanee salmon, mackinaw, rainbow, Lahontan cutthroat, and brown trout.
Hiking opportunities abound, with trails running north and south along the lakeshore and the Meeks Bay Trail climbing into the Desolation Wilderness to Phipps Pass and beyond. The Tahoe Rim Trail offers panoramic basin views for more adventurous hikers. Day-use visitors are welcome to enjoy the beach, picnic facilities, and amenities. The main building houses a visitor center, snack bar, meeting rooms, and gift shop where guests can purchase supplies and connect with Washoe Tribe members.
