* WHAT...Heavy snow. Snow accumulations between 6 to 10 inches for communities surrounding Lake Tahoe and up to 7000 feet, and 12 to 28 inches above 7000 feet and for Sierra passes. Winds gusting as high as 90 mph along the Sierra crest and 20-35 mph for communities surrounding Lake Tahoe. * WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area. * WHEN...From 2 PM Saturday to 11 PM PDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible, especially for the Saturday evening and Sunday morning commutes. Strong winds could cause damage to trees and power lines.
About
Meeks Bay Campground is uniquely situated on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, approximately 10 miles south of Tahoe City and eight miles north of Emerald Bay. Located between Sugar Pine Point State Park and D.L. Bliss State Park, the campground is operated under special use permit by the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada as part of Meeks Bay Resort. The campground provides lakefront camping with direct access to white sand beaches and the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tahoe. Each site includes standing BBQs and fire rings. The location offers easy access into Desolation Wilderness for day hiking and backpacking. The resort includes a visitor center with snack bar, conference rooms, and gift shop. Summers are typically warm and dry, though nighttime temperatures can be cold and afternoon thundershowers are common. Snow is possible during any month. The campground has a heavy usage level and fills quickly during peak season. Reservations open December 1st each year through Recreation.gov and are highly competitive.
