About
Stone State Park campground is located in a scenic wooded hollow surrounded by the unique Loess Hills terrain of western Iowa. Despite its proximity to Sioux City, the park offers rugged backcountry beauty and abundant wildlife. The campground features 30 sites including tent-only sites, standard non-electric sites, and sites with electric hookups, accommodating up to six people per site. A modern restroom and shower building serves all campers, and a large youth group campsite is available for organized groups. The park provides extensive recreational opportunities with over 15 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center offers educational displays on the Loess Hills ecosystem. Anglers can fish for catfish in the Big Sioux River along the western border, while Turtle Lake offers panfishing opportunities. The campground is best suited for tent campers, though RVs are welcome at sites with driveways up to 42 feet. Grass pads can become soft when wet, so the terrain favors lighter camping setups.
