About

Bow Creek Primitive Camping is a remote, backcountry camping experience within the Missouri National Recreational River, managed by the National Park Service. Situated along Bow Creek and the Missouri River in Cedar County, Nebraska, approximately 2 miles northeast of Wynot, the area offers solitude and direct access to the river corridor. The recreation area features five designated primitive campsites, each marked with a brown camping sign and equipped with a metal fire ring. Camping is free and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, though all overnight visitors must obtain a free camping permit before arrival. Permits can be obtained online or in person at the park office in Yankton, South Dakota. This is genuine Leave No Trace camping. There is no potable water, no toilets, and no trash service. Campers must pack out all garbage and bring their own water supply. Dead and downed wood may be collected for campfires. Motorized vehicles and horses are prohibited on the property. Access is via a series of gravel roads following brown directional signs to the parking lot and trailhead.
