About
Ponca State Park spans 2,400 acres of heavily forested bluffs, bottomland wetlands, and prairies along the Missouri River in northeastern Nebraska, serving as the eastern gateway to the 59-mile Missouri National Recreational River. As one of Nebraska's most visited state parks, it offers exceptional wildlife viewing, particularly during spring migration when the National Audubon Society recognizes it as one of the most important birdwatching areas in the United States. The park features three distinct campground areas with a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served sites. Camping options include Turkey Ridge Campground with 35 electric plus first-come, first-served sites, Oak Bluff Campground with 37 reservable electric plus sites, and Riverfront Campground with 10 electric sites and 10 electric plus sites, all reservable. Basic campsites without electricity are also available on a first-come, first-served basis. All campgrounds include modern restrooms, hot showers, picnic tables, fire pits, nearby water spigots, a dump-and-fill station, and playground access. The park also offers three group campsites ideal for scout troops and larger gatherings. Beyond camping, visitors can explore 22 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, access the Missouri River via two boat ramps, enjoy the aquatic center during summer months, and visit the famous Tri-State Overlook offering views of Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa. The Eric Wiebe Shooting Complex provides all-weather ranges for various shooting sports, and guided horseback rides are available Memorial Day through Labor Day. The park hosts numerous events throughout the year, including the Missouri River Outdoor Expo in September, Hallowfest in October, and winter activities during Winterfest.
