About

Clay County Park sits 4 miles southwest of Vermillion, South Dakota, on a quiet, wooded stretch of the Missouri River. Managed by the Clay County Park Board in cooperation with South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks, the campground offers a secluded retreat with tall shade trees and direct access to one of the last free-flowing sections of the Missouri. The park features 32 electrical campsites plus designated tent sites, with facilities including flush restrooms and showers, a dump station, playground, and volleyball and horseshoe courts. Three miles of paved nature trails loop through the property, connecting campers to the river and surrounding forest. The boat ramp at Clay County River Access provides paddlers and anglers a launch point at River Mile 781. This campground serves as a comfortable base for exploring the Missouri National Recreational River. The natural setting appeals to campers seeking a quiet experience with modern conveniences, while the river access draws boaters and kayakers heading onto the water.
