About
Located 18 miles from Fargo in southeast Georgia, Stephen C. Foster State Park sits on the western edge of the 438,000-acre Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. The campground underwent significant renovations and now features two distinct loops catering to different camping styles. The RV loop provides full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections, while the tent camping loop offers a more primitive experience closer to nature. The park serves as a prime base for exploring the Okefenokee Swamp, home to alligators, black bears, sandhill cranes, and over 200 bird species. Guided boat tours venture into the swamp's mysterious blackwater channels lined with ancient cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. Paddlers can rent canoes or kayaks to explore at their own pace. The park also features a pioneer campground for groups seeking a more rustic experience. Facilities include modern restrooms with showers, a dump station, playground, and the Trading Post. The Suwannee River Eco-Lodge in nearby Fargo provides an alternative lodging option. Gates close at 10pm and reopen at 7am, with no access during closed hours.
