About

Laura S. Walker State Park is a 626-acre oasis near the mysterious Okefenokee Swamp in southeast Georgia, named for a Georgia writer, teacher, and naturalist who championed tree preservation. The park shares many ecological features with the unique Okefenokee ecosystem, providing habitat for fascinating wildlife including alligators, carnivorous pitcher plants, gopher tortoises, great blue herons, warblers, and owls. Visitors can explore 4 miles of nature trails winding through pine forests and native plant communities, or enjoy the park's 120-acre lake with opportunities for fishing, swimming from a sand beach, boating with a 10 HP limit, and even water skiing during designated hours. The campground offers 44 sites for tents, trailers, and RVs, along with additional accommodations including 6 cottages, a pioneer campground, and group camping facilities. The park features The Lakes, an 18-hole championship golf course with a clubhouse and golf pro, offering gentle links-style mounds and three lakes throughout the course. Additional amenities include picnic shelters, a gazebo, playground, dog park, boat ramp, wildlife observation boardwalk, and kayak and bicycle rentals. WiFi is available in the visitor center and campground for camping guests.
