About
Steel Bridge Campground is a primitive BLM campground nestled in a narrow valley along the Trinity River, about three miles east of Douglas City. The surrounding hillsides are covered with ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, oak, and madrone trees. The campground features 13 tent and trailer sites, each with a paved parking spur, picnic table, fire ring, and bear box for food storage. The campground is popular with anglers fishing the Trinity River and boaters seeking access to nearby whitewater rapids for rafting and kayaking. A small beach and day-use area adjacent to the campground provides swimming access, though visitors should note the river runs cold and fast. A campground host is generally on-site during the operating season. One site (Campsite 6) is designated as accessible, with paved parking and a paved path connecting to an accessible double vault toilet, though the path includes a slope with no protective railings. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum stay of 14 days.
Directions
From Douglas City, travel east on State Highway 299 for approximately 3 miles. Turn north onto Steel Bridge Road and continue about 2 miles to the campground.
