Ackerman Campground is a lakeside facility situated at 1,900 feet elevation on the western shore of Lewiston Lake in the Trinity Lake/Weaverville area of Shasta-Trinity National Forest, part of the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. The campground features 51 single sites with an average back-in length of 40 feet, making it suitable for both tent camping and RVs. Lewiston Lake is roughly 5 miles long and a half-mile wide, known for its cold, crystal-clear waters and excellent fishing opportunities. The 610-acre lake offers good fishing for kokanee salmon as well as rainbow, brown, and brook trout, making this campground a favorite destination for anglers. Motorized boats are limited to 10 mph on Lewiston Lake. The Fairview boat ramp providing access to Trinity Lake is 3 miles north, while the Pine Cove boat ramp for Lewiston Lake access is 2 miles south. The campground sits at the base of Trinity Dam with a mountainous shoreline and topography ranging from marshlands to dense forest. While some deciduous and conifer trees are scattered around the facility, the campground is mostly unshaded. Additional recreation includes kayaking on Lewiston Lake and hiking the 2-mile North Lakeshore Trail. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with grill.

Directions

From Weaverville, take Highway 3 north for 7 miles. Turn right on Rush Creek Road for 9 miles. Turn left on Trinity Dam Boulevard for 7.5 miles.
