About
Nordheimer Campground is a small, peaceful facility located in the Six Rivers National Forest near the Wild and Scenic California Salmon River in Siskiyou County. The campground features 12 individual campsites nestled under shady Douglas-fir and hardwood trees, with gravel roads and parking areas throughout. Each site includes a combination fire ring grill and picnic table. The campground also offers river access, making it an excellent base for water recreation. The Salmon River provides outstanding opportunities for rafting, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. The campground is situated in a remote area with scenic beauty and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. Hiking and mountain biking are popular activities on nearby trails. An on-site campground host is available during the operating season to assist visitors. This is a primitive campground with vault toilets but no potable water, so visitors must bring their own water supply. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. The remote location on Salmon River Road offers solitude and a true backcountry experience, though the road is narrow and requires careful driving.
Directions
From Orleans, travel 8 miles north on Highway 96 to Somes Bar. Turn right onto County Road 2B01 (Salmon River Road) and continue approximately 14 miles east to the campground. The Salmon River Road is narrow and not well maintained; use caution.
