About

Nordheimer Group Sites sits along the Salmon River in the Six Rivers National Forest, offering a remote and beautiful camping experience in northern California's Klamath Mountains. The campground features four group sites (A, B, C, and D), each accommodating up to 50 guests, set within a Douglas fir and hardwood forest with partial shade and remnant fruit trees from historic homesteading. Sites A, B, and C provide spacious grassy meadows surrounded by forest, while Site D offers direct views of the Salmon River with easy walking access for boaters and swimmers. The campground serves as an excellent base for whitewater enthusiasts, as the area is in the heart of Salmon River rafting territory, with activities typically running from spring through early summer when water levels are optimal. The river is also popular for kayaking, swimming, and fishing. The campground provides access to extensive recreational opportunities including the nearby Orleans Mountain Trail and the adjacent Marble Mountain Wilderness Area, which offers ample hiking and horseback riding trails, as well as high country fishing in 89 alpine lakes. The narrow, sometimes one-lane access road makes this location best suited for smaller rigs and those seeking seclusion in a scenic mountain setting.

Directions

From Highway 96, turn onto Salmon River Road/Forest Highway 93 and continue about 14 miles to the campground at 900 feet elevation.
