About

Spruce Grove Campground is positioned beside large rock outcroppings on Tarryall Creek in the Pike National Forest, approximately 13 miles north of Lake George, Colorado. At 8,600 feet elevation, the campground offers 27 sites surrounded by mature spruce and aspen trees with excellent boulder scenery. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, and pedestal grill, with parking spurs accommodating trailers up to 35 feet. The campground provides direct access to the Lost Creek Wilderness via the Lizard Rock Trail, a 2.5-mile route featuring unique rock formations. The extensive Brookside-McCurdy Trail, a former pack trail, can be backpacked in five to seven days. Wildlife in the area includes black bear, mule deer, elk, bighorn sheep, and bobcats. Anglers can pursue rainbow and brown trout in Tarryall Creek or travel 11 miles to Tarryall Reservoir. Due to limited parking, day hikers and anglers are asked to park outside the campground. The campground is bear country, so proper food storage is required.

Directions

From Lake George, turn right onto County Road 77 (Tarryall Road) and travel approximately 13-15 miles. The campground is on the right; the sign and entrance sit back off CR 77.
