The China Wall area is seasonally closed from January 1 through June 15 for resource protection. The area reopens June 16 and remains open through December 31. Current Pike National Forest fire restrictions require fires only in designated dispersed campsites or developed recreation sites.

About

China Wall dispersed camping area sits within Pike National Forest in eastern Park County, Colorado, serving primarily as a base camp for those exploring the challenging China Wall OHV trail (Forest Road 212). The trail itself is a technical 3-mile out-and-back route known for difficult rock obstacles that attract experienced off-road enthusiasts. The camping area offers roughly 8 informal camping spots on relatively flat ground before the terrain rises steeply toward the OHV obstacles. Sites can accommodate tents, truck campers, and some larger trailers, though access roads may limit very large rigs. As dispersed camping on National Forest land, there are no developed facilities whatsoever. Campers must bring all water, pack out all trash, and follow Pike National Forest dispersed camping regulations including the 14-day stay limit within any 20-mile radius per 30-day period and camping at least 100 feet from water bodies. Campfires may be subject to seasonal restrictions depending on current fire danger conditions.

Directions

From Highway 24 just west of Lake George, head north on Park County Road 77 for approximately 11 miles. Turn right onto Forest Road 212. The dispersed camping spots are located before the steep hill leading to the OHV obstacles.
