About
Badger Gulch is a dispersed camping area within the Badger Flats Trail Network in Pike National Forest's South Park Ranger District. Located in Park County, Colorado near Wilkerson Pass, this area provides primitive camping opportunities in ponderosa pine forest at elevations lower than many other Pike National Forest sites, making it accessible earlier in the season. The camping area is accessed via Badger Gulch Road, a slightly rough spur off County Road 31. The terrain is suitable for most vehicles including larger rigs, though high-clearance is helpful. Sites are well-spaced and can accommodate multiple vehicles, with some areas fitting rigs up to 40 feet. No developed amenities exist; campers must bring all water and pack out all trash. A Forest Order restricts camping in the Badger Flats Management Area. Camping is only permitted at designated dispersed campsites marked with steel fire ring campsite markers, in Forest Service developed campgrounds, or in areas more than one-quarter mile from National Forest roads.
Directions
From Lake George, take US-24 west approximately 6.5 miles. Turn right onto County Road 31 and follow for about 1.6 miles. Turn left onto Forest Road 224 (Badger Gulch Road) to access camping areas.
