Located 7 miles southwest of Lake George on County Road 96, Springer Gulch Campground offers a scenic base for exploring Eleven Mile Canyon at an elevation of 8,300 feet. The campground features 15 sites with dirt parking spurs ranging from 20-28 feet, accommodating RVs and trailers up to 25 feet. Sites are scattered throughout the gulch among ponderosa pine, aspen, and fir trees that become denser further up the canyon. The South Platte River flows through Eleven Mile Canyon just a short walk from camp, providing exceptional fly fishing for trout in waters bordered by polished gray granite cliffs. Hikers can access the Overlook Trail from nearby Spillway Campground to take in breathtaking views of the canyon and Eleven Mile Reservoir, with opportunities to spot golden eagles nesting in the granite crags. Wildlife is abundant, with elk, mule deer, foxes, and occasional sightings of mountain lions and bears common in the area. The campground is part of the Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area, which requires a separate day-use fee for entry.

Directions

From Lake George, turn south off Highway 24 onto County Road 96. Follow County Road 96 into the canyon until you reach Springer Gulch Campground on your right, about 6 miles from the Eleven Mile Canyon entrance.
