About
Springer Gulch Campground occupies a prime location in Eleven Mile Canyon, carved by the South Platte River through polished gray granite cliffs. At 8,300 feet elevation, the campground offers sweeping mountain views and immediate access to some of Colorado's best trout fishing. Ponderosa, aspen, and fir trees are scattered throughout, becoming denser at sites further up the gulch. The campground has 14 sites: 10 standard nonelectric and 4 tent-only. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets serve the area, and potable water is available from a hand pump. Parking spurs accommodate vehicles 20-28 feet, with a maximum trailer length of 25 feet. There are no hookups. Hikers can access the nearby Overlook Trail from Spillway Campground, offering breathtaking views of Eleven Mile Canyon and Eleven Mile Reservoir. Golden eagles nest in the nearby granite cliffs. Wildlife in the area includes elk, mule deer, foxes, and occasionally mountain lions and bears. The Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is a short drive away.
