Round Mountain Campground sits at 8,500 feet elevation in Pike National Forest, positioned near Blue Mountain, Stoll Mountain, and Martland Peak. The campground features 16 widely spaced campsites tucked into woods of ponderosa pine and young aspen, creating a rustic mountain camping experience. The high altitude brings mild summer days and chilly nights, while aspen trees provide brilliant yellow displays in fall. Located just 6.5 miles west of Lake George on US Highway 24, the campground serves as a convenient base for exploring the area's diverse recreation opportunities. Eleven Mile Canyon lies nearby, offering excellent fly fishing, rock climbing, hiking, and wildlife watching. The Hardrock Trail, a 1.5-mile interpretive trail for hikers and mountain bikers, is accessible from the nearby Riverside Campground. Eleven Mile Reservoir is 15 miles away, and Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, featuring petrified redwood stumps and thousands of detailed fossils, is an easy 11-mile drive. Wildlife is abundant in the area, with sightings of porcupines, mule deer, beavers, and chipmunks common. The remote location and high elevation provide exceptional stargazing opportunities. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility with no trash service, emphasizing a leave-no-trace camping ethic.

Directions

From Florissant, take US Route 24 west for 10.3 miles to the campground sign. Turn right onto the dirt road and continue 0.2 miles to the campground on the right. From Lake George, travel 6.5 miles west on US Highway 24.
