WHERE...Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Rio Blanco, Garfield, Eagle, Summit, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Mesa, Pitkin, Lake, Park, Delta, Gunnison, Chaffee, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, and northern parts of Montezuma and Saguache Counties. Locations include, but are not limited to Craig, Steamboat Springs, Walden, Granby, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, Meeker, Rangely, Glenwood Springs, Eagle, Vail, Breckenridge, Central City, Georgetown, Grand Junction, Aspen, Leadville, Fairplay, Delta, Gunnison, Buena Vista, Salida, Montrose, Nucla, Ouray, Telluride, Dove Creek, and Saguache. WHEN...900 AM Wednesday July 01 to 900 AM Thursday July 02 IMPACTS...Areas downwind of large fires in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah could have periods of moderate to heavy smoke through at least Thursday morning. This is especially true for those with heart disease, respiratory illnesses, the very young, and older adults. Consider limiting outdoor activity when moderate to heavy smoke is present. Consider relocating temporarily if smoke is present indoors and is making you ill. If visibility is less than 5 miles in smoke in your neighborhood, smoke has reached levels that are unhealthy.

About

Round Mountain Campground sits at 8,500 feet in Pike National Forest near Blue Mountain, Stoll Mountain, and Martland Peak. The 16 campsites are widely spaced among ponderosa pine and young aspen, creating a peaceful atmosphere with excellent stargazing opportunities due to minimal light pollution. Wildlife in the area includes porcupines, mule deer, beavers, and chipmunks. The campground is strategically located just 6 miles from Lake George and Eleven Mile Canyon, where visitors can enjoy fly fishing, hiking, rock climbing, and wildlife watching. The nearby Riverside Campground offers access to the 1.5-mile Hardrock Trail for hiking and mountain biking. Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument is about 15 minutes away, featuring petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide and thousands of detailed fossils. Facilities are rustic: each site has a fire ring and picnic table, with vault toilets available. There is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. This is a pack in/pack out facility with no trash service. Maximum trailer length is 35 feet. The campground accommodates up to 8 people, 2 tents, and 2 vehicles or 1 RV per site.

Directions

From Lake George, Colorado, take US Highway 24 west for 6.5 miles to the campground sign. Turn right onto the dirt road and go 0.2 miles to the campground on the right.
