WHERE...Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Rio Blanco, Garfield, Eagle, Summit, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Mesa, Pitkin, Lake, Park, Delta, Gunnison, Chaffee, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, and northern parts of Montezuma and Saguache Counties. Locations include, but are not limited to Craig, Steamboat Springs, Walden, Granby, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, Meeker, Rangely, Glenwood Springs, Eagle, Vail, Breckenridge, Central City, Georgetown, Grand Junction, Aspen, Leadville, Fairplay, Delta, Gunnison, Buena Vista, Salida, Montrose, Nucla, Ouray, Telluride, Dove Creek, and Saguache. Happy Meadows Campground is a small, peaceful campground nestled along the South Platte River in the Pike National Forest. Located just 3 miles north of Lake George at an elevation of 7,900 feet, this campground offers 7-8 sites, including two buddy sites ideal for groups camping together. The setting provides easy access to excellent fishing on the South Platte River, known for its trout. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring with grate, and pedestal grill. Potable drinking water is available from a hand pump, and vault toilets are provided. Parking spurs range from 20-30 feet with a maximum trailer length of 22 feet, making this campground better suited for tent campers and smaller RVs. No hookups are available. The campground operates from mid-May through mid-October, weather dependent. A 14-night consecutive stay maximum applies, and a bear closure order is active requiring bear-resistant food storage. Reservations are available through Recreation.gov up to 5 days prior to arrival; unreserved sites become first-come, first-served.

Directions

From Lake George on US-24, turn north on County Road 77 (Tarryall Road). Travel about 1 mile and turn east on County Road 112. The campground is on your right about one mile in.
