Spillway Campground

Spillway Campground occupies a scenic location at the edge of Eleven Mile Canyon in Pike National Forest, perched along the South Platte River just below Eleven Mile Reservoir dam. At 8,500 feet elevation, the 23 campsites are shaded by scattered spruce and ponderosa pine trees, with the polished gray granite cliffs of the canyon providing a dramatic backdrop. The campground is a prime destination for anglers, with rainbow and brown trout, kokanee salmon, and pike available in the river and nearby reservoir. The Overlook Trail offers breathtaking views of the canyon and reservoir, with opportunities to spot Golden Eagles nesting in the granite crags and Bald Eagles during spring. Rock climbers find excellent routes on the solid granite walls throughout the canyon. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Vault toilets and potable water from a hand pump are available. The campground operates on a 14-night consecutive stay limit, with check-in at 2 p.m. and check-out at noon. Bear country precautions are required.

Directions

From Lake George, Colorado, turn off Highway 24 onto County Road 96. Follow the road for about one mile to the Eleven Mile Canyon entrance. Spillway Campground is the last campground, approximately 9 miles up Eleven Mile Canyon near the dam.
