About
Cove Campground is a small, primitive campground located in Eleven Mile Canyon along the South Platte River in Pike National Forest. With just four campsites, this intimate campground is a favorite among anglers seeking excellent fishing opportunities for rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout in the river below. The canyon is also renowned among rock climbers for its solid gray granite walls and quality climbing routes. The campground sits at 9,900 feet elevation and offers basic amenities including vault toilets, hand-pumped drinking water, picnic tables, and fire rings. Parking spurs accommodate vehicles 25-34 feet in length, though the maximum RV length is 16 feet. The area provides access to the Overlook Trail, which offers breathtaking views of Eleven Mile Canyon and Eleven Mile Reservoir. Wildlife viewing opportunities include Golden Eagles nesting in the granite cliffs and Bald Eagles, particularly in spring. Reservations are strongly recommended during summer months and are required at least four days in advance through Recreation.gov. The campground enforces a two-night minimum on weekends and three-night minimum on holiday weekends. Campers should be aware of bear activity in the area and follow proper food storage protocols. An Eleven Mile Canyon day-use pass is required for all visitors.
