About

Blue Mountain Campground occupies a quiet hillside between Eleven Mile Canyon and the peak of Blue Mountain in Pike National Forest. At 8,200 feet elevation, the 21 campsites are nicely spaced on a single loop among scattered ponderosa pine, providing a primitive and peaceful camping experience. The campground offers direct access to the Hard Rock Interpretive Trail, a 1-mile self-guided path leading to an impressive overlook of Eleven Mile Canyon. The trail explores the diverse ecology of the region with opportunities to observe wildlife and photograph sweeping canyon views. The South Platte River flows a half-mile below, offering fishing for rainbow, cutthroat, and brown trout. Nearby attractions include rock climbing routes in Eleven Mile Canyon, the 3,405-acre Eleven Mile Reservoir, and Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, one of the richest fossil deposits in the world featuring petrified redwood stumps up to 14 feet wide.

Directions

From Lake George, turn off Highway 24 onto County Road 96. Follow the road for about 1 mile toward Eleven Mile Canyon and take a right at the fork onto County Road 61. The campground is on the right.
