About
Pulver Mountain Group Site offers a private group camping experience in Pike National Forest at 8,500 feet elevation. The facility includes a large pavilion with multiple moveable tables and a communal campfire pit, along with six individual campsites, each equipped with a stationary table and fire ring. A double-stall vaulted restroom serves the area. The west field, accessible only on foot, provides additional space for tents, recreation, or group activities. The site is located approximately 5 miles west of Lake George off Highway 24, accessed via Forest Service Road 861. Firewood is available for purchase at the nearby Round Mountain Campground host site. This is bear country, so proper food storage in containers or locked vehicles is required. The fairly flat terrain features natural grasses and scattered pines providing a mix of shade and sun. Nearby attractions include Eleven Mile Canyon with its scenic South Platte River drive, rock climbing, kayaking, and fishing. Jefferson Lake offers wildlife viewing and hand-launched boating about 45 minutes north. Off-road vehicle areas are accessible to the south and at Badger Flats to the north, though OHVs must be trailered to trail systems.
Directions
From Lake George, travel west on US Highway 24 approximately 5 miles (2 miles west of Round Mountain Campground turnoff). Between mile markers 257 and 258, turn south onto Forest Service Road 861. Follow approximately 1/4 mile; the gate will be on the right.
