About
Southford Picnic Shelter sits within Southford Falls State Park, a 169-acre park established in 1932 on the site of the old Diamond Match Company. The shelter is available for seasonal rental and provides access to the park's scenic amenities, including its namesake tiered waterfall, a historic covered bridge over Eightmile Brook, and an observation tower. The park features a two-mile trail network through varied terrain with interesting geological features including glacial erratics and a U-shaped glacial valley. Paper Mill Pond offers trout fishing as one of Connecticut's regularly stocked designated trout parks. The park provides picnic tables, grills, and composting toilets. Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset during operating season, this day-use facility offers hiking, field sports, and winter activities including cross-country skiing and sledding.
