Osbornedale Picnic Shelter is located within Osbornedale State Park, a 350-acre property situated in the Naugatuck Valley Hills along the east bank of the Housatonic River in Derby and Ansonia, Connecticut. The park was willed to the people of Connecticut in 1956 by Frances Osborne Kellogg, granddaughter of early industrial entrepreneur John W. Osborne. The land includes former dairy farms known for prize-winning Holstein and Jersey cattle. The park offers diverse recreational opportunities including hiking trails through varied geology featuring schist, gneiss, and diabase formations, fishing, ice skating on the park's large frozen pond in winter, and visits to the historic Osborne Homestead Museum and Kellogg Environmental Center. The picnic shelter provides a covered gathering space equipped with picnic tables, suitable for group events and family outings. The park is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to sunset year-round, with an alcohol ban in effect throughout the property.

Directions

From Route 8, take Exit 16. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp, then left again at the lighted intersection (Division Street). Drive approximately 3/4 mile. Osbornedale State Park will be on the right, across from Derby High School at 43 Chatfield Street.
