About

Indian Well Picnic Shelter is a reservable open-air pavilion situated in the northern section of Indian Well State Park, a 153-acre recreation area on the western bank of the Housatonic River in Shelton. The shelter measures 30x70 feet and accommodates groups with 10 picnic tables, a working fireplace within the pavilion, and 2 large grills in the surrounding area. The park itself offers diverse recreational opportunities beyond the shelter. A wide, sandy beach with lifeguard-supervised swimming during summer months provides waterfront access, while a public boat launch allows access to the Housatonic River for fishing and boating. The blue-blazed Paugussett Trail traverses the park, and a 15-foot waterfall with a gorge gives the park its name, inspired by Native American legend. The shaded picnic grove creates an ideal setting for gatherings. Park facilities include flush restrooms, parking areas, and a daily parking fee for all vehicles. Connecticut residents park free, while out-of-state vehicles pay varying fees. Reservations for the picnic shelter are available through ReserveAmerica. The park is located at 1 Indian Well Road and is accessible from Route 8 north via Exit 14.
