The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Red Flag Warning for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 11 AM to 9 PM MDT Sunday. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 220, 221 and 225. * TIMING...From 11 AM to 9 PM MDT Sunday. * WINDS...Southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 11 percent. * IMPACTS...Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically.

South Meadows Campground sits in a stand of ponderosa pines at 8,000 feet elevation, approximately 5 miles north of Woodland Park in Pike National Forest. The campground offers 64 sites connected by paved roads, with each site featuring a fire ring and picnic table. The campground is adjacent to the 4.2-mile Centennial Trail, a paved, accessible recreation trail that connects South Meadows to Manitou Lake Picnic Area and Colorado Campground, popular with hikers, inline skaters, and bicyclists. The location provides excellent access to numerous recreational opportunities. Nearby Manitou Lake offers fishing opportunities, and off-road vehicle enthusiasts can explore the Rainbow Falls and North Divide OHV Trail Systems. The campground serves as an ideal base camp for day trips to major attractions including Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs, and the U.S. Air Force Academy. Woodland Park, located 5 miles south, provides gas, food, dining, and shopping. Summer weather typically brings mild temperatures with warm days and cooler nights, though afternoon thunderstorms are common. The campground operates seasonally with full services available during peak season and reduced amenities during shoulder seasons.

Directions

From Colorado Springs, travel west on Highway 24 for approximately 25 miles to Woodland Park. From Woodland Park, travel 5 miles north on Highway 67 to South Meadows Campground. The campground is on the left side of the road.
