About
Colorado Campground is a popular family destination in Pike National Forest, situated at 8,000 feet elevation in a ponderosa pine forest just north of Woodland Park. The campground offers 80 sites with parking areas up to 30 feet long, each equipped with picnic tables and fire grates. An amphitheater hosts evening campfire programs on weekend nights during the season. The campground sits adjacent to the 5-acre Manitou Lake, accessible via a short trail, where visitors enjoy trout fishing, bird watching, and canoeing. The paved, accessible Centennial Bike Trail connects Colorado Campground to Manitou Lake Picnic Area and South Meadows Campground, making it popular among hikers, cyclists, and rollerbladers. Off-road vehicle enthusiasts can explore the nearby Rainbow Falls and North Divide OHV Trail Systems. The campground lies in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, directly north of Pikes Peak, which reaches 14,115 feet. Garden of the Gods and Colorado Springs are about 25 miles southeast, while the town of Woodland Park, 6 miles south, offers gas, groceries, dining, and shopping. This is bear country, so proper food storage is essential.
